Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) Therapy

ABA is an evidence-based approach that helps children learn skills that matter—communication, social interaction, independence, and daily routines—through individualized teaching and positive reinforcement.

Understanding ABA Therapy

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is widely recognized as the gold standard for supporting children with autism and other developmental differences. It is a systematic, data-driven methodology that focuses on identifying the function of behaviors to create effective learning opportunities.

At Lighthouse, our ABA programs are designed to be engaging and supportive. We move beyond repetitive drills, focusing instead on natural environment teaching (NET) and incidental learning that mirrors real-life situations.

Every child receives a customized curriculum developed by a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), ensuring the therapy aligns perfectly with your child’s unique strengths and your family’s specific priorities.

ABA Therapy

What is ABA Therapy?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) is the application of the principles of Behavior Analysis. Behavior reduction and skill acquisition goals are identified according to social significance, and those goals are targeted with individualized programming. ABA utilizes principles such as positive reinforcement to teach appropriate behaviors to replace potentially harmful behaviors, and these interventions are analyzed based on four functions of behavior: escape or avoidance, attention, access to tangibles, and  automatic reinforcement (sensory). In addition to intervening in potentially harmful behaviors, ABA can target deficits in communication, socialization, and activities of daily living, such as toileting. ABA therapy has been endorsed by the U.S. Surgeon General and the American Academy of Pediatrics, and it is recognized as one of the most effective, evidence-based treatments for Autism Spectrum Disorder.

What ABA services are available through Behavioral Transformations?

All therapy provided through Behavioral Transformations is direct 1 to 1, with the exception of some social skills groups. All of our therapists are required to obtain their Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification within 60 days of hire, if they are not already certified. All cases have an assigned supervisor who manages the programs and the training of the staff for each case. At a minimum, 10% of the hours attended will be directly supervised by a Board-Certified Behavior Analyst or a Board-Certified Assistant Behavior Analyst. Parent training is also provided on a regular basis, and it is an important part of ABA, as it promotes generalization of skills learned in the clinic to the home environment. Behavioral Transformations also provides social skills groups for varying age groups and skill levels.

What is Occupational Therapy?

Occupational therapy (OT) specializes in helping people of all ages achieve or return to their optimal level of independence with everyday tasks (also known as “occupations”). For children, their daily occupations include activities related to play, self-care, education, social participation, and rest/sleep. An occupational therapist is trained in the evaluation and treatment of various skill deficits that impact a child’s participation in their occupations. Deficits may include motor, sensory processing, social-emotional, or cognitive systems and associated skills that directly affect a child’s success with self-care tasks and daily routines.

We provide OT-specific evaluations and treatment that are individualized to each client and their family’s needs. All treatment sessions are one-on-one and focused on addressing each client’s customized plan of care.
